About Us
WEEE-RecycleIT is the trading name of Mapatom Ltd which was established in 2007 and has its roots firmly in the IT industry.
As we move into a new era of data protection regulation we have adopted what we have learnt over the last decade and rewritten all our data handling policies and are fully compliant in all our practices for 2018 and beyond.
We have always been passionate about recycling and are always looking at the modern thinking and practices in the UK and from around the world.
The thinking is to move away from the “make, use, dispose” way of doing business and to be more mindful of the environment. We have adopted the circular economy method of doing business which is restorative and regenerative by design.

Who we are at WEEE-RecycleIT
WEEE-RecycleIT is the trading name of Mapatom Ltd which was established in 2007 and has its roots firmly in the IT industry. Mapatom Ltd started as an IT purchasing company but we quickly specialised in secure data destruction due to the high importance of correct data handling. Historically legislation was weak and put the onus of data protection on to the originator of the data and not the ITAD company that ended up with the data bearing device. We studied the subject in great detail and looked at the various ways to irrecoverably destroy data. We gained knowledge through experimentation with various software tools and demagnetising machines and talked to companies involved in data security who had conducted case studies on both physically destructive and non-destructive methods. As we move into a new era of data protection regulation we have adopted what we have learnt over the last decade and rewritten all our data handling policies and are fully compliant in all our practices for 2018 and beyond.
We have always been passionate about recycling and are always looking at the modern thinking and practices within the UK and from around the world. We have noticed the shift towards the circular economy and the benefits it brings to both the environment and to business alike. The thinking is to move away from the “make, use, dispose” way of doing business and to be more mindful of the environment. The circular economy is restorative and regenerative by design and our intention is to keep resources in use for as long as possible and extract the maximum life from them. At the end of the product life cycle we pass the product onto our licensed recycle partners for material recovery and re-purpose.
We also believe in fair trading practices, we designed our business model so that we could offer a completely free collection and recycling service in most cases for businesses, schools, colleges and government bodies wishing to dispose of their IT equipment in a legal and ethical way.
Due to spiralling recycle costs to us we will only charge for collections where the equipment has been dismantled or deliberately spoiled. This will be arranged at the booking stage as we never charge retrospectively. Our free service is for companies that want the equipment they are asking us to collect to be correctly decommissioned and all the identifying markings removed, the BIOS reset, and any data bearing device destroyed either onsite for sensitive data or digitally at our secure warehouse for non-essential data.
